Ben Kerman

Ben Kerman, Ph. D. is a leader in using human and organizational development practices, strategic learning tools, and rigorous program evaluation to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families. Across his 35 years in the nonprofit, health, educational, and philanthropic sectors, his constant focus has been helping make programs and partnership work better.


Collaborating with many of these sectors’ most determined and creative change makers to address some of our systems’ most complex problems, Ben has grown ever more convinced of the value of partnership and place.


Ben's early roots were in direct services, leaving a lasting imprint of pragmatism on his approach to program, organizational and systems development. As a Clinical Psychologist, he focused on child, adolescent and family assessment and intervention. The resilience and resourcefulness he witnessed inspired him to recognize that despite stubborn challenges there are always paths forward. At the same time, a constructive skepticism informed by a background that included rigorous fit-for-purpose methodologies and an acute awareness of treasure and time constraints kept him looking for bigger, more efficient and more durable results. This persistent appetite for impactful learning has led him on a journey weaving together direct services, systems change, organizational management, and strategic grantmaking.
